Anastasiia Kovtun
Artist/Psychologist.
I grew up as an artist by running around the fields in the village, stealing apples from the collective farm orchard and eating them with my friends on the outskirts of town, watching the sunset; I grew up as an artist treading the path from my garden to the river, chasing kingfishers in the reeds, raising a firefly farm, running to the strawberry bushes every morning in summer to look for the first red one, standing barefoot on the cool morning ground… All of this taught me to love life and to see beauty. It took me a long time to realize the infinite value of the resources in ordinary, everyday beauty.
I was lucky enough to study at the Academy of Fine Arts of Ukraine - these were happy times. Psychologist and psychotherapist by second degree, I immersed in art, psychology, philosophy, and theology to distill them all into my creative projects. For me, art and psychology are inseparable, like the verbal and the spiritual. This is the only way to achieve integrity of the soul.
The most precious gift the art has given is the enlightenment of that depth which is inaccessible to consciousness. In art we can see not only the external manifestation of objects, but their internal essence. To create works of art is an intention, a rush from within, the resistance to which is useless. I am not the one who's painting, I am the one who's painted with.
Creativity is a Meeting where something new and unique is born. It is a non-being turned into being. It's the Secret of the creative process.
